You do not always need new windows to get a warmer, quieter home. We replace the glass units in existing frames – whether they have misted up, cracked or are simply old single or early double glazing – with modern energy-efficient sealed units that cut heat loss, filter out solar heat while letting in natural daylight, and reduce outside noise.
Double glazing
Two panes of glass sealed around an insulating gap, filled with argon gas and with a low-emissivity coating that reflects heat back into the room. Modern double-glazed units are far more efficient than those fitted even ten or fifteen years ago, so replacing old or misted units is one of the quickest ways to make a home warmer and cheaper to heat.
Triple glazing
Three panes and two insulating gaps for the highest level of thermal performance. Triple glazing keeps more heat in, reduces cold spots and condensation near the glass, and noticeably cuts outside noise – ideal for bedrooms, north-facing rooms and homes near busy roads.
Solar control glass
A special coating that reflects a large proportion of the sun’s heat while still letting in natural daylight. Solar control glass keeps conservatories, south-facing rooms and large glazed areas comfortable in summer without darkening the room, and can be combined with low-emissivity glass to keep warmth in during winter.
Laminated glass
Two sheets of glass bonded together with a tough interlayer. If laminated glass is broken it holds together rather than shattering, which makes it an excellent choice for security and safety – it is the same construction used in car windscreens. It also blocks most UV light, helping to protect furniture and flooring from fading, and improves sound insulation.
Toughened safety glass
Heat-treated to be around five times stronger than ordinary glass, and designed to break into small, blunt pieces rather than sharp shards if it does fail. Building regulations require safety glass in doors, side panels next to doors and low-level windows, and we fit it as standard wherever it is needed.
Obscure glass
Privacy without losing light. Obscure glass is textured or frosted so that it lets daylight through but stops anyone seeing in – ideal for bathrooms, en-suites, front doors and side windows. We offer the full range of Pilkington patterns, from subtle satin finishes to classic textures such as Stippolyte, Cotswold, Contora, Minster and Autumn, in varying levels of privacy.
